Strolling through Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna, Virginia, I came upon this enticing scene. To my mind, the loveliest spot in the park, it called out to me to be captured in a photograph.
I worked carefully to position the trees in my viewfinder so I could capture their full beauty without the intrusion of distracting elements in the background. Once I determined the best view, I set up the tripod I’d been lugging to stabilize my camera for the shot.
I find the resulting photo pleasing. The star of the show, clearly, is the pair of pink-flowered trees that occupy the central place in the composition. But the deep blue of the sky reflected in the lake pairs nicely with the complementary yellow that covers the bank on the far side.
I love the graceful arching of the trees’ branches as they reach into the far right of the image. The trunks of the trees on the left anchor the frame and hold it in balance. This makes it, to my eyes,m a strong composition. Paired with the vivid colors of spring, it is a compelling photo and one of my favorites. I have a 16 X 20 inch print of this photo hanging on the walls of my home.
